Altec Lansing im600 Portable Speakers Description:

When Altec Lansing introduced the original inMotion, it set new standards for sound and size and let a whole lot of music out of the iPod. Now Altec Lansing raises the bar again with an innovative and performance-leading new model. The Altec Lansing iM600 sound system offers stereo sound from dual 2-inch neodymium drivers optimized for high-frequency extension (better highs, in other words). It offers more power and output than any other system in its class and, what’s more, it features another Altec Lansing engineering innovation called the Stereo Field Expander: SFX for short. SFX makes the speakers sound further apart than they really are, giving the user a heightened stereo effect.

The iM600 also features a stereo FM radio and can double as a clock radio when plugged in to an electrical outlet (AC adapter included). It includes rechargeable Li-ion batteries and a wireless remote. And it syncs and charges all dockable iPod models.

Whether on the go or on your desk or tabletop, the iM600 resets the expectations for features and performance in a sound solution for the iPod.

The Altec Lansing im600 does an excellent job all the way around. This is the speaker system that I choose to use on a daily basis at the office.

The sound is nice and clear and will get very loud, not as loud as the larger iPod boom boxes or more expensive systems.

The look is stylish and clean. A nice design feature is how the unit folds up to go into a bag or backpack which protects the dock and makes the unit more compact.

The iM600 is constructed to the high quality standards that we have come to expect from Altec Lansing.

The remote control is works well and is a nice feature. Now when the phone rings I can just pause the music with the remote rather than having to reach across my desk to the ipod.

Conclusion
The Altec Lansing im600 is an excellent choice for around the house or office. Nice clear sound, long lasting rechargeable battery, and folds up nicely for travel and storage.

Purchased a similar Altec Lansing IPod speaker system 1 year and 9 months ago. Starting having cracking in the speakers while playing music, now it does this just when turned on, with or with-out an IPod present. Called the company, 1 year warranty if not registered, 2 year if I registered on-line. Of course I didn't register.............now expensive trash.

After returning from a family beach trip in which my brother brought a bose portable speaker, I had to go get one. I didn't want to pay the $300 so I did some research. While there is a difference in the sound quality in the Bose product, we are very happy with the Altec speaker. Very good highs, good volume and the remote is a must have. If you're willing to spend the extra $$, get the Bose but if you just want a good clean sound and a good product, this will do fine.

Pretty decent sound, but does not charge 4th Gen Nanos. Ours lasted only about a year before it died. Sounds like a common problem with these units. Too bad, because the give yo a lot of bang for the buck.

I just purchased the iM600's after researching them on amazon.com and seeing they were a best pick at http://bestcovery.com/node/8283. I had to get them and I am more then pleased with my purchase. They sound and look great! With they had better bass but for such a small unit I cannot complain.

Great Machine but not enough power to rate 5 out of 5 on performance and sound quality. I would have to go with 4 for sound quality. The price is great but it isn't a competitor to Bose on the sound, but it's much more portable and easier to carry around. If I could give it a 4.5 on value and price, I would but the survey doesn't allow anything but whole numbers.

We have had this speaker system for a few months. It provides rich sound in a small package. It accommodates both my son's nano, my husband's 80 gb ipod and my i-Touch. The rechargeable battery has a long life. We are constantly fighting over it and will probably buy a second one!
