The iH9 is another great alarm clock from iHome. iHome is becoming the gold standard in iPod Alarm clocks under $100. They get it all right. The sound is great, each alarm can wake you to your iPod, a buzzer or the radio (which gets good reception). The clock is easy to adjust and a full function remote is supplied. The time is automatically set, battery backup for the alarm functions, the display is easy to read, and the backlight setting has many levels to make
everyone happy.
The set up and use of the clock is very intuitive. We did not need to refer to the directions once when setting it up.
Sound
The sound is excellent for a system of its size and price. If the clock is setting next to your bed, on your desk, or even in the kitchen, the sound is crisp and clear. The bass is what you might expect from a below $100 unit but most people will not notice a difference. The volume increments are very small, allowing you to find the exact volume that you want.
Display
The display on the iH9 is excellent with nice big numbers, that make it easy to tell what the sound input is(iPod, AM, FM, Line In) and which alarm is set. The display is white numbers on a black background The display also has a dimmer which can be set bright enough to be easily read in the daytime and dim enough to not emit any light at night. The buttons on top of the unit are backlit as well and the brightness corresponds with the display dimmer setting.
Alarm Functions
One great alarm feature is the 7-5-2 alarm settings. This feature allows you to set an alarm for 7 days a week, 5 days a week (the weekdays) or 2 days a week (the weekends). This is one of our favorite features because you no longer have those early Saturday morning wakeups because you forgot to turn off the alarm Friday night.
The length of the snooze can now be set between 1 and 29 minutes. Everyone has their own way they like to wake up and the iH9 is customizable to that. A gradual wake is also available.
Dual alarms can be any alarm type you want. In previous versions of this clock Alarm 1 was the iPod or buzzer and Alarm 2 was the radio. With the iH9 Alarm 1 and Alarm 2 can each give you every type of wake up that the system offers
The alarm has a battery backup feature and the batteries are included, 2AA batteries to be exact
Remote
The remote is well designed and arranged. iH9 remote give you full access to your iPod which is an improvement from the iH8 remote. The remote has a good range. It has the little bubble buttons so you know when you have pressed down.
Radio Functions
The radio function sound good and are easy to use. The large spinning dials make it very easy to change stations and adjust the volume. There are 6 AM and 6FM presets and they are very easy to program. Just hold the preset
button and then the station is set. Both the AM and FM frequency get good reception.
Additional Features
Daylight Savings Time is now easy to set. There is a flip switch on the back of the unit that allows you to adjust for daylight savings time.
The power supply has iHome engraved into it. In a world where every device has its own power adapter, it is nice to know that this one goes with your iHome iPod Alarm Clock
