Review

Bowers & Wilkins have once again set the bar higher by releasing the Zeppelin. After years of research and attention to what consumers want, they have designed a speaker system which not only looks sleek and sexy, but has excellent sound quality. The sound is excellent all the way to "11." Its unique design allows you to fully wrap your hand around the iPod which makes it much easier to navigate the ipod and select your favorite music. The modern design of the Zeppelin not only stands out but it stands out in style.

Bowers & Wilkins have designed and placed speaker systems in some of the top studies around the world, including Skywalker Ranch (think George Lucas, Star Wars) and Abbey Road Studios (think The Beatles). The Zeppelin is their first iPod speaker design and it is clear that they know how to create not only top of the line speaker systems, but also top of the line design and style.

Sound
The sound that comes from these speakers is powerful yet full and crystal clear. You can listen to music through these speakers at normal volume and it will fill up the room with rich deep sound. Unlike many other speaker systems in which sound can leak from left to right channels the Zeppelin evenly distributes the sound coming from the speakers. You can turn this speaker system up loud or to "11" and you will be surprised to hear that the sound remains clear and full, with almost no distortion. The speakers can handle the loudness and it is great that you can up the volume on these speakers for occasions such as cocktail parties and cookouts. The volume control itself has small increments which allow you to set the volume at exact desired level.

System Design and Set up
When taking this speaker system out the box you can expect a very easy setup, you just plug in the power and set the Zeppelin on the base and you are good to go. The setup is very straight forward and it is so self-explanatory that you probably won’t even need to use the instructions to guide you through the setup. If you want to reference the instructions, a detailed, clear and well presented manual is provided. On the front of the speaker system there is a power button and a volume adjuster. On the back of the speaker system there is an input for power, USB, auxiliary input, s-Video output and the composite video out.

One nice feature of the Zeppelin is that you can wrap your hand fully around the iPod which makes easy navigation when browsing through your library. Also on the front of the system behind the speaker grill is a small light which is only visible when the system is on. This light will let you know if the system is on, when the system has accepted the remote control signal, or when you are at maximum or minimum volume.

Remote
The remote is a small and egg shaped, with an easy to use and simple layout you can expect to easily replay and advance songs, adjust the volume or turn the system on or off. This remote will fit snugly in your hand. The Zeppelin will give you feed back and let you know that you have made a selection by blinking a blue light on the system. When taking the volume to lower levels the Zeppelin light will blink red, when you take the volume to high levels the light will blink white. The remote consists of the following buttons: on/off, volume up and down, play/pause, song forward/back and source input toggle. The remote has a full range and works well from most angles.

If there was room for only one area of improvement to the Zeppelin, it would be the remote. Full access to the iPod would be a big improvement. The remote front and back feel exactly the same in your hand. It would be nice to be able to tell the front from the back without having to look at the remote.

Conclusion
The Zeppelin by Bowers & Wilkins is an awesome speaker system with a deep, rich, full sound. It will fill up any room in your house in which you put it. If you have the $600 for the purchase, then go ahead and make it, because this speaker system will impress you every time you turn it on.
